Offsets

Shop our range of electric fence offset insulators — bracket-style insulators that position an electrified wire away from the main fence structure, used to add electric deterrent capability to existing fences without rewiring the entire fence line.

Electric Fence Offset Insulators — Buying Guide

What Are Offset Insulators?

Offset insulators (also called outrigger insulators) are insulated brackets that extend outward from an existing post or fence picket, carrying an electrified wire parallel to and offset from the main fence structure. They allow an electrified “hot wire” to be added to the inside or outside of an existing fence — adding electric deterrence to an existing non-electric fence without the cost and labour of replacing the fence. They are one of the most cost-effective tools for upgrading fencing performance.

Common Applications

  • Adding hot wire to existing fences — add an electric deterrent to existing timber, steel or chain wire fences to stop cattle leaning, horses pushing or wild dogs probing the fence
  • Predator exclusion — add an outward-offset hot wire at ground level and/or at the top of an existing fence to deter foxes and wild dogs from digging under or climbing over
  • Anti-lean wire for cattle — position a hot wire inside the top wire of an existing cattle fence to prevent cattle leaning over and forcing the fence down
  • Electric fence on steel posts — used to carry a hot wire on star pickets and steel posts without the wire touching the metal post

Types of Offset Insulators

  • Polywire offset insulators — carry polywire, polytape or polyrope at standard offset distances from timber, steel or wire fence posts
  • Standard wire offset brackets — for use with plain wire and high-tensile wire; typically angled outward at 45°–90° from the post
  • Adjustable angle offsets — allow the wire position to be adjusted to suit specific fence configurations and offset distances

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best offset for a predator deterrent wire?
For fox deterrence at the base of a fence, position the offset wire 100–150mm above ground and 150–200mm outward from the fence. For an anti-climb top wire, angle outward 300–400mm at 45° from the top of the fence.

Can offset insulators be used with polywire?
Yes — offset insulators are available in versions designed to carry polywire, polytape and polyrope, as well as standard plain wire options.
