Horse fencing must balance containment, safety and visibility. Horses are large, powerful animals that can seriously injure themselves on inappropriate fencing — sharp wire edges, narrow apertures and weak structures are all serious hazards. Fence Height and Post Spacing

A minimum fence height of 1200mm is recommended for horses, with 1500mm preferred for larger breeds such as warmbloods and thoroughbreds. Post spacing of 3–4 metres is standard for wire mesh, with closer spacing in curved sections or areas of high horse pressure. Rail fencing should use at least three rails at appropriate heights.
